must と have to の違い Must or Have To?
助動詞 Modal Verbs
どちらも「〜しなければならない」。must は話し手の内心から出る義務(自分がそう思う)、have to は事情・規則から来る義務(そうなっている)。日常会話では have to が主役で、must は書き言葉・掲示に寄っています。
Both mean "have no choice but to." Must pushes from inside — the speaker's own judgment. Have to pushes from outside — rules, schedules, circumstances. In everyday speech, have to does most of the work; must leans formal and written.
圧の出どころで選ぶ
Where Is the Pressure Coming From?
I must finish this today. は「自分がそう決めている」。I have to finish this today. は「締め切りがそうさせる」。同じ状況でも、義務の出どころをどう見せたいかで選べます。そして過去は had to の一択(must に過去形はありません)、未来も will have to。活用が必要な場面は、ぜんぶ have to が引き受けます。
I must finish this today — the drive is mine. I have to finish this today — the deadline is doing the pushing. You choose by where you want the pressure to appear to come from. And whenever grammar needs a past or a future — had to, will have to — have to steps in, because must has no other forms.
内心の must、事情の have to Inner must, outer have to
I have to wear a uniform at work.

掲示・規則文は must が普通。書き言葉は must の本拠地。 Signs and rulebooks love must — formal writing is its home turf.

must は助動詞なので to は付きません。to が付くのは have to のほう。2つが混ざって must to になるのが定番ミスです。
Must is a modal — no to after it, ever. The to belongs to have to. Blending them into "must to" is the classic mix-up.
- I have to say, ... 言わせてもらうと… 「言わずにいられない事情がある」という前置きの決まり文句。 "The circumstances force me to say it" — a set opener.
- You must be tired. 疲れたでしょう。 これは義務でなく推量の must(〜に違いない)。must のもう1つの顔で、別エントリで扱う。 Not obligation — the deduction must. That other face gets its own entry.
- if you have to どうしてもと言うなら 外的事情に譲歩する言い方。 Yielding to circumstances — a little grudgingly.
- must-see / must-have 必見の/必携の 「見なければ」の must がそのまま名詞に固まった形。 The obligation frozen into a noun: a must-see.
