日常で「〜してもいい?」は Can I ...? が標準。May I ...? は接客・式典などの改まった場面用。Could I ...? がその中間です。「can は能力だから許可は may」という古い規範は、現代の実態と合っていません。
For everyday permission, Can I …? is the standard. May I …? belongs to formal settings: service counters, ceremonies. Could I …? sits in between. The old schoolbook rule — "can is for ability, so permission needs may" — no longer matches how English actually works.

文法的には正しいので「誤り」ではありません。ただ、友達相手の May I は執事のような響きで、距離を感じさせます。日常は Can I で十分。逆に、面接や接客では May I がきちんと効きます。場面のミスマッチに注意、という例です。
