受動態の基本(いつ使う? by は要る?)The Passive: When to Use It, and Where By Went
受動態 / The Passive
受動態(be +過去分詞)を選ぶのは、「した人」より「されたもの」を主役にしたいときです: My bike was stolen.(自転車を盗まれた——犯人は不明)。実際の受動態の大半は by なしで使われます。「誰がやったか」が不明・重要でない・言うまでもない——この3条件が受動態の出番です。
Choose the passive — be + past participle — when the receiver matters more than the doer: My bike was stolen (thief unknown). Most real-world passives carry no by-phrase at all. Doer unknown, unimportant, or obvious: those three conditions are the passive's job description.
カメラを「された側」に向ける
Pointing the Camera at the Receiver
Someone stole my bike. と My bike was stolen. は同じ出来事です。違いはカメラの向き——能動態は「した人」から、受動態は「されたもの」から撮る。だから受動態が輝くのは、した人を撮る必要がない場面: 犯人不明(was stolen)、誰でもいい(English is spoken here.)、言うまでもない(He was arrested. ——警察に決まっている)。by ...(〜によって)を足すのは、した人がニュースのときだけです。ここで動かしているのはカメラの向きで、時制の項で言う「カメラの位置」(いつに立って見るか)とは別の軸です。受動態は立ち位置を変えずに、レンズの向きだけを変えます。
Someone stole my bike and My bike was stolen report the same event; only the camera angle differs. Active shoots from the doer; passive shoots from the receiver. So the passive shines when the doer doesn't need the lens: unknown (was stolen), anyone at all (English is spoken here), or too obvious to mention (He was arrested — by the police, naturally). Add a by-phrase only when the doer is the news. What moves here is the camera's direction. The tense entries talk about where the camera stands, a separate axis. The passive keeps your footing and turns the lens.

した人が分かっていて普通に言えるなら、能動態が英語の自然な選択です。by 付き受動態を並べると、書類のような堅い響きになります。「受動態+ by =した人がニュースの時だけ」と覚えておくと、文が英語らしくなります。
When the doer is known and easily named, active voice is English's natural gear. Chains of by-passives read like paperwork. Reserve passive + by for when the doer is the news, and your sentences relax into real English.
