There is と It is の使 There Is or It Is? Introducing vs. Describing

Pronouns

しくさせる「〜がある・いる」は There is/are(ろは a や some)。すでにっているについてるのは It is(the の)。ここでも a と the のがそのままになっています。

To bring something onto the stage — "there's a …" — English uses there is/are, followed by a or some. To describe what's already known, it is takes over: the's territory. Once again, the a/the pair maps straight onto a pair of constructions.

There's a cat on the roof.(がいるよ)——げるです。そのについてけるなら It's been there all morning.(からずっといるんだ)。は「をいきなりかない」リズムをっていて、there is はそのためのゲート。ゲートをったは it がぎます。

There's a cat on the roof — the cat's stage entrance. Keep talking about it and it takes over: It's been there all morning. English prefers not to open a sentence with brand-new information; there is is the entrance gate built for exactly that. Once through the gate, it carries the topic.
