There is 構文(新しいものを舞台に出す)There Is: Introducing Something New
Word Order & Emphasis
There is / There are a book / some people / no time
There is and there are exist to bring something onto the stage for the first time. What follows is therefore new information: a book, some people, no time. Things your listener already knows about, the ones that take the, don't go here. For those you use ordinary word order instead.
A Placeholder That Sends the Subject Back
This there doesn't mean over there. It holds the subject seat temporarily while the real subject arrives later. The reason for sending it back is that English prefers to put new information in the second half of a sentence. The front of a sentence is reserved for what's already shared. Seat something unfamiliar there and the reader stumbles.
Introducing, or already present
corner.
Puts a shop the listener doesn't know yet onto the stage. Note the a.
corner.
Both of you know which bakery, so ordinary order does the job.
There were no messages when I got back.
You can introduce a zero as well, with no doing the work.
There is / are(新情報)
a / some / no / many What follows is unspecified: a, some, no, many and their kind.
There are several ways to solve this.
Anything with the or a possessive simply becomes the subject.

Common Mistake
×There is the station near my house.
○There is a station near my house.
The station is near my house.
This introduces something marked with the. The is a signal that both of you already know which one, so there's nothing to introduce. If you're raising it for the first time, use a. If you want to state where a known station is, switch to ordinary order: "The station is near my house." The slip is common when a phrase meaning something exists gets mapped onto there is by reflex.
There you go. This there really does point at a place, unlike the placeholder one.
There's no doubt that ...〜なのは間違いないno を使って断定する型。 Uses no to state something firmly. Common in writing.
There seems to be ...〜があるようだ断定を避けて存在を示す。 Reports existence without asserting it. Handy for opening a complaint.
There used to be ... States past existence and its absence now in one stroke.
